El Instituto Dominicano de las Telecomunicaciones (Indotel) garantizó “la inclusión de una perspectiva de género” en todos los proyectos e iniciativas que en materia de tecnologías de la información y la comunicación realiza en el país [...] el presidente de Indotel [...] dijo que estos organismos valoran positivamente “el uso de la metodología de evaluación de género (GEM) y su aplicación en el diseño y evaluación de políticas públicas, programas y proyectos de tecnologías de la información y la comunicación”.

The study found that ownership of the cable by telecoms incumbents, such as MTN and UTL owning shares in EASSy in Uganda, reinforced their market positions.[...]

10 May 2009 -- The Family Alliance for Development and Cooperation (FADECO) has come a long way since 1993, when Joseph Sekiku and friends formed an alliance to help overcome poverty in north-western Tanzania. Starting as a network of people sharing an internet connection, the small telecentre eventually became a computer literacy training station, an internet café, and has expanded to an informative radio station reaching two million listeners, many of whom are farmers. Radio France International interviewed Joseph after his story was featured in an APC study called Unbounded Possibilities: Observations on sustaining rural ICTs. Listen to the interview (off-site).

27 Marzo 2009 -- La asociación además forma parte de la campaña Dominemos la Tecnología, una iniciativa de Programa de Apoyo a las Redes de Mujeres (PARM) para luchar contra la violencia hacia la mujer que se gesta dentro de las mismas plataformas tecnologías a través de la pornografía y el lenguaje sexista.

17 Marzo 2009 -- This major independent daily covers APC member Fantsuam Foundation "a rural-based non-governmental organisation [which] works with local communities to fight poverty and empowers disadvantage people. It is committed to making Southern Kaduna a successful and replicable model of integrated rural development in Nigeria. It was founded in 1996 by a group of Nigerian professionals from the area who recognised the need for empowering their rural neighbours and community members, particularly women, to find means of employment and income and meet their own development needs." And mentions that among its many 'firsts', Fantsuam Foundation was the winner of the First APC Africa Hafkin prize (2001).

11 Febrero 2009 -- La directora de la Asociación para el Progreso de las Comunicaciones (APC), Anriette Esterhuysen, se centró en la experiencia adquirida por su organización que ve las redes como "ecosistemas" que deben buscar su propio camino. Lo más importante es "tener valores compartidos" para que una red funcione, pero respetando "la diversidad" de cada miembro, añadió. Igualdad y flexibilidad son otras piezas clave, según esta experta.
